Ford Steals the Show With 2020 Shelby GT500 at NAIAS

The North American International Auto Show (also known as the Detroit Auto Show) is one of the biggest events for carmakers in the country. It’s the first chance they have to show the public what their plans are for the year and Ford did not disappoint. They announced the all-new 2020 Shelby GT500, a supercharged 700+ horsepower street/track behemoth.

Touted as “the most powerful street-legal Ford ever”, the new GT500 will be sporting a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 pushing out more than 700 horsepower. Ford says it’ll get you from 0-60 in the mid-three second range and get down the quarter-mile in under 11 seconds. It features the fastest street-legal acceleration times and most high-performance technology ever offered in a Ford Mustang.

The GT500’s hood has a massive 31×28-inch louvered vent totaling 6.03 square feet that allows hot air to quickly escape the engine bay and works with the wider opening in the front grille and new front splitter design to improve aerodynamics for optimum track performance.

Implementing performance parts like a carbon-fiber driveshaft and TREMEC® 7-speed dual-clutch transmission allows you to effectively and quickly access the GT500’s power with smooth shifts taking less than 100 milliseconds. The larger six-piston Brembo brake calipers and rotors, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and optional carbon-fiber wheels (available with the track package) make it possible to bring all that power to a halt.
