TheDrive.com brings us new photos today of the 2021 Ford Bronco prototype. What’s most interesting about these new photos though are a few small details that hint at its potential off-road capabilities. Last week, we saw photos released that hint at removable doors and roof which would be a welcome carryover from the Bronco of old. In these newest photos, however, we see the addition of rock rails, a beefier tire, and beadlock wheels.
Let’s start with the wheels. This new Bronco is fitted with 315/70R17 tires which may sound familiar to some Ford enthusiasts. That is the same size as the tires on the F-150 Raptor. It’s also sporting some beadlock wheels which are also a very popular option on the Raptor. A noticeably more “beefy” setup than what we’ve seen on the other spied versions of the Bronco.
Next up, we’ve got the addition of rock rails in lieu of traditional running boards. For those not ‘in the know’, rock rails are metal, typically steel, well…rails, that run the length of the rocker panel on a vehicle. They provide increased rigidity and protection from bumps and jolts against rough terrain. They are a big hit with Jeep Wrangler buyers and many think these off-road additions suggest that Ford is planning to challenge the Wrangler market directly. Only time will tell but we shouldn’t have to wait much longer for the official Bronco release from Ford.
